About Me

My name is Matthias, a materials engineer based in Germany, currently living in the north-eastern Bavarian countryside. I was born in a picturesque city in eastern Saxony and grew up in the beautiful Black Forest in southern Germany. I've studied at the University of Aplied Sciences in Jena which was undoubtly one of the best times I had so far.

I'm a keen self-taught landscape and nature photography enthusiast who learned by empirical studies while doing, failing and suceeding. With covering the basics now after 3 years of directional work my journey into this wonderful genre only started recently.

I love to travel and learn to know other areas and people in the world, most notably their mindsets, food and beer. Biking and hiking are the means of choice when I perform my little photographic adventures. I love the feeling of studying maps, checking for accomodations and finding routes to walk or cycle when it comes to travelling, it evokes my Wanderlust. Although I like to have things checked and done I'm a Laissez-Faire-Guy who not let oneself get worked up.

In 2021 I decided to launch this photography blog - Natural Light Exposed - which is all about nature and outdoor photography and how it helps me to see things differently. The focus will be on philosophical and also on technical challenges within this Genre.

I'll give written tutorials about photography in the field, the hard- and software I use as well as some gear talk in general.

If you are wondering about my choice to write this blog in English, it is simply to retain my language skills I've achieved so far which are at least 50% self-taught skills. Furthermore, German is my mother tongue and I speak it for over 30 years now. Although there might be enough possibilities to enhance the vocabulary or grammar, I thought there should always be enough room for improvements in a second language. So please be kind if you find some failures in grammar, punctuation or block format but constructive criticism is always welcome.

Enjoy and see you out there!
